Progress

This past Memorial Day weekend I took a huge leap forward in the progress of the double ring quilt. I have 5 of the 9 rows now complete!! Woohoo!! My goal is to have the last 4 done by this weekend. Back to sewing! Adios!

Sew Sew Sew

Bri came down to Muncie today to work on the quilt. We got a bit done. Bri pressed seams on the melon sections while I pieced them together.This is Bri! Say hi!

This is part of what I completed. They are the first 3 finished rings. I have all of the top of the first row done. The finished quilt will end up being 8rings across and 9 down. It will be 90" x 101".

We also went to Jo-Ann's to get the batting and the backing. We got a natural cotton batting, which to me just seems to be the way to go. They have polyester batting but they don't seem as warm or durable. Plus the cotton batting was only like a $1 more a yard than the polyester. The backing is the same print as the green rings of the quilt. We still need to get binding though.

I may have also picked up a couple of remnants. The top is a deep, rich purple knit and the second is from their Cosmopolitan collection they have out this spring. Remnants were 50% of the remnant price, so I got a very good deal on them. They were each under $3.00 and are both just over .75 yds. I will at least be able to get a top out of each.

We did also take a indulgence break and go to the new location for Concannon's Pastries. They have the best cream filled long johns ever!! At their new location they even have chocolates and ice cream. Their rainbow popcorn has always been one of my favorites too. Next time Bri and I are sewing together we will take another trip there with my camera that way you can see how great it really is!

When we got back from our adventure I continued sewing and Bri started work on her very first sewing project. She is making this cute apron with a semi-vintage like mushroom print fabric. It should be pretty darn cute when she gets done.

Break Time

I thought I would take a break from pressing for a moment to update my blog. I wanted to share some of my sewing goals for this year.

1. Finish this quilt by July 5th. I still have a long ways to go. Although Bri is coming tomorrow to help with it some more.

2. Make 2 pairs of jeans. I think that after this quilt I will make the first pair.

3. Add more prints to my wardrobe. I don't have very many and so I have been trying to buy more printed fabrics to use.

4. Finish my husbands pirate costume. I don't have much left to do.

5. Start my pirate costume!

6. Add more skirts and dresses to my everyday wardrobe.

7. Make a great, classic trench coat for next spring.

8. Make a new winter coat for this year.

9. Experiment with adding embellishments to garments, like yo-yo's and ribbon.

10. Make my own reusable grocery bags.

11. Use approximately half of my fabric stash. I can't buy anymore right now.

To help me stay focused and on task, I am going to start posting a month in review evaluation of what I made, what and how much fabric I have used and purchased. Stay tuned for more!

Project Update

I fully intended to post pictures of my latest project from start to finish and then it did not happen. I honestly, didn't even take pictures of the garment in progress. Once I start sewing I just get really into it and forget about doing things like that. I figured I would follow the mantra of better late than never and post them now.

I made dress A for a wedding I attended last month. This is McCall's pattern M5137. I used the fabrics pictured above. The only thing I changed about the pattern is that I added a lining using the brown cotton.

These are not great pictures of the finished dress because my husband shot them as we were leaving to drive to Indianapolis. I look 'so thrilled.' The print fabric has this great flower embroidery done on it with gold thread that doesn't really show up in these pictures. I love this dress though. It is comfortable and cute!

My current project is the double ring wedding quilt. I have got to focus on getting that done. I still have a long ways to go to finish it by July. I am still in the early stages of it too. These pics are from right after I cut out my pieces.

This is currently where I am at. I started piecing some of the half melons together and decided I wanted to piece a couple of blocks together to see where I am going with this project. That's what the pictures below are.

I still have a lot of melons to piece together before I can start making all my blocks. Wheh! That's a long way to go. Well I better get back to sewing it now. I will post more pics as I get more together.
